Alberto Rullan, VMD

Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Entrepreneur
Horse Medicine Equine Conditioning Veterinarian

Dr. Alberto Rullan was born and raised in a small, rural town on the island of Puerto Rico. He dreamt about becoming an Equine Veterinarian since he was a young boy.

Dr. Rullan graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. Dr. Rullan was granted a one-year equine medicine and surgery internship at Louisiana State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital and Clinic where he obtained advanced training in diagnostic and therapeutic techniques in equine medicine and surgery.

Dr. Alberto Rullan co-founded Performance Equine Veterinary Services with his brother William in 2009. This practice focuses mainly on treating performance-related problems in horses. Dr. Rullan’s goal is to provide an accurate diagnosis in order to provide recovery with the best available treatment for horses that are not performing to their full potential.

In 2017, Dr. Rullan founded the Equine Performance Center. EPC is a comprehensive Equine Rehabilitation Facility in Ocala, FL. Where horses have the chance via physical rehabilitation and regenerative therapies to return to athletic performance. Using this methodology, EPC was able to make some impossible cases become thru such as Izzy, Freckles, Illusion and many others. Due to the difficult and challenging natures of these cases, EPC became quite popular locally and nationally. This is when Dr. Rullan partnered up with Dr. Phil Hammock (Board Certified Surgeon) in order to build a state of the art surgery suite and become the most comprehensive equine hospital and rehabilitation facility in Florida, and they quite properly renamed the center as Equine Performance Innovative Center (EPIC).

Dr. Rullan frequently travels to broaden his veterinary knowledge and consulting around the world. He continues his studies in equine rehabilitation, lameness diagnostics and treatment methods, and the use of stem cells and regenerative therapy in equine injury treatment and recovery. He is also active in volunteering with the Equitarian Initiative, a non-profit international organization that is dedicated to providing veterinary care to horses in less fortunate communities and teaching basic veterinary care to the people in these communities.
